How to Report and Replace a Lost, Stolen, or Damaged EBT Card
If your EBT card has been lost, stolen, or damaged, you're not alone. Every state provides a fast and secure way to report the issue and request a replacement. While the steps vary slightly by state, the process typically starts by calling your state’s EBT customer service line and verifying your identity.
It's important to report the problem as soon as possible. Once you call, your old card is immediately deactivated to prevent unauthorized purchases. A replacement card is then mailed to you—usually within 3–7 business days, depending on your state’s policies.
Some states also provide reimbursement for stolen SNAP benefits under the federal SNAP fraud replacement rule, as long as the theft is reported promptly.
If you have trouble reaching customer service, many states offer online tools that allow you to freeze your EBT card, request a replacement, or manage your benefits through their secure EBT portal.
